Can we assemble data showing the numbers of appointments of women and aboriginals in the natural sciences before and after the 2008 elimination of NSERC's UFA program?

We now have continuous data files from 2003-2011 (still waiting for 2011-2012 file). It would be useful to slice and dice these files to create new data files showing changes in the NSERC's distribution of investment over time.

I just added a visualization from N. Ghoussoub's blog post (http://nghoussoub.com/2012/05/10/nsercs-discovery-program-let-it-bleed/). It shows the same data as in Brent's visualization.
Ghoussoub's post identifies the portions of the 2010-2011 budgets for RTI ($31.4M) and MRS ($35.2M) and Discovery Grants ($326.2M). These delineations represent a more fine-grained description of the NSERC investment portfolio distribution. I'd like to see fine-grained visualizations of the NSERC budget portfolio over the past decade.
Thanks, Jim. Ghoussoub's plot shows much more clearly what's happening. I duplicated it using the colour scheme I've been using for the other plots (and added the administration costs) in case you want to use it in your upcoming blog post and maintain visual uniformity.
Is there anything in particular that you would like to see in a "fine-grained" visualization?
I just uploaded a graphic showing the portion of the NSERC budget occupied by the various major headings in the 2010-2011 Facts and Figures table. This data goes back to 2001 and shows a steady decrease in the portion of the budget dedicated to "Discovery" programs, as compared to "People" and "Innovation". I would like to compare the data back to 1996 using the earlier tables. However, there are some inconsistencies in the labeling of various programs between the old and new tables, and so a more delicate analysis is required.
Excel files from NSERC Facts and Figures for the years 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008 have just been uploaded into the NSERC Tables Dataroom. Thanks to Kennedy Stewart, the Library of Parliament and NSERC staff for making these files available.
We now have a continuous run of data from 2003 to present so can begin to study investment changes over time in the NSERC budget.
Great. Very interested in seeing how pronounced the trends have been over time.
I did my best to combine the line items from the 2003-04 and 2010-12 Facts and Figures tables into a more manageable format. The result is the file "nserc-combined-data.xls" in the Data folder. Hopefully it will now be easier to make some plots showing the effects of CREATE, Engage, etc.
